TEKAN, which translates to "Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria" in Hausa, was founded as a coalition of Christian denominations sharing common beliefs and traditions. Established to create unity and cooperation among member churches, TEKAN is deeply involved in evangelism, humanitarian work, and community development. Many of its members are from northern Nigeria, where Christianity often faces significant challenges, and TEKAN has been a vital organization for solidarity and support.
ECWA (Evangelical Church Winning All):
ECWA, which originally stood for "Evangelical Church of West Africa," is one of the largest Protestant denominations in Nigeria. Established by missionaries from the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) in 1954, ECWA has grown significantly across Nigeria and West Africa. Known for its evangelical zeal and emphasis on Scripture, ECWA churches focus heavily on missionary work, education, and health services.
ECWA operates several schools, seminaries, hospitals, and other community services, often in areas where government resources are limited. This has made ECWA a significant influence, especially in rural and underserved regions.
